Spring Flowers for Fresh Cut Bouquets
These spring-blooming flowers grow from bulbs that you’ll need to plant ahead of time in fall. Spring bulbs need to experience the cold temperatures of winter to bloom properly, and once the temperatures begin to rise in spring, that’s when they know it’s time to get moving!
Tulips are classic spring flowers that come in nearly every colour imaginable. Some are even multicoloured with stripes and splashes of contrasting shades. Cut them while their blooms are still closed, then they’ll open up slowly after you’ve placed them in water.
Daffodils always brighten up the scenery with their cheerful yellow blooms! Pair them with white flowers for a sweet and soft look, or mix them up with some purple spring flowers for a burst of fresh spring colour.
Irises have a distinctive shape, with a frilled outer layer of petals hanging down like a skirt around its upper petals. They thrive in moist environments, so they’re perfect if you have a pond. We love the deep blue varieties—so striking!
Summer Flowers for Fresh Cut Bouquets
There are endless summer flowers to admire, but some make better fresh-cut bouquets than others. Here are three we think you’ll love!
Roses are a no-brainer—they’re just so timeless and romantic! We especially love tea roses for their intoxicating aroma that wafts through the air. Skip the scented candles and grow some roses in the garden for fragrant bouquets!
Dahlias come in so many shapes and sizes—the sheer variety is mind-boggling! Plant these summer-blooming bulbs in spring, and you don’t need to chill them over winter to stimulate blooming.
Hydrangeas are flowering shrubs with fluffy mophead blooms often used in wedding arrangements. Cutting the flowers to use in bouquets will help extend the flowering period and encourage repeat blooms!
Fall Flowers for Fresh Cut Bouquets
When you’re not too busy admiring the breathtaking fall foliage outdoors, you can fill your home with these beautiful fall flowers from the garden!
Japanese Anemones may look delicate, but they hold up very well as cut flowers in vases. They’re ideal for teacup bouquets featuring fresh-cut flowers with shorter stems for compact table arrangements.
Chrysanthemums are a hallmark of fall, and their round, compact blooms are a charming addition to mixed arrangements.
Sunflowers are grown as annuals in Bala and Port Carling, but they grow at lightning speeds! These sunny golden blooms bring a quaint, country aesthetic to fresh-cut bouquets.
Winter Flowers for Fresh Cut Bouquets
As soon as the snow melts in March, these beauties will brighten the drab winter landscape with spellbinding colour!
Hellebores are also known as Christmas roses. Their unique colours make a dramatic statement in cut arrangements. The elegant petals look as though they were painted with watercolours!
Crocuses are known for emerging even when there’s still snow on the ground! Plant them in fall along with your spring-blooming bulbs, and their vivid purple petals will poke up from the white snowy ground in early March.
Fresh evergreen cuttings aren’t exactly flowers, but they look gorgeous in winter bouquets! Clip a few branches to mix in with some other assorted blooms.
